2009
Dear Christian Friends,
We’re writing to say how much your prayers and support have meant to us over the past year. Thank you for helping us in the work of the Kingdom!
As you may know we last spoke at Orleans Prison on November 15th, 2008. For now we have turned that service over to other volunteers as the Lord has been giving us other “assignments”, opening new doors. We will miss the guys of course but there is an open invitation to return in the future.
Our family Christmas was a very treasured one. As many of you know our youngest son Jesse came home on leave December 5-14 for the birth of his first born. He and his wife Mindy had a little girl, Mariah Jade who arrived on December 10, all 6 lbs., and 14 oz of her with wavy, black hair! Our Cruz Christmas came early, December 13th with all the children and grandchildren together for the first time in six years due to one or more being in the military. It was bittersweet as Jesse had to return to Ft. Hood on the 14th. Then we got the call at 3:58AM that we knew we would come. It was December 16 and Jesse was on his way to Iraq (his orders were changed from Afghanistan). We were so grateful to be able to pray with him. His last words to us were help Mindy and the family and keep him in prayer. As we said goodbye he said he loved us all so much. We know the Lord will sustain us just as He did when our other son was in Iraq. We personally know that His grace is sufficient (2nd Corinthians 12:9) and He will carry all of us through.
As we told you before the Lord gave us favor and opened the door at Butler Prison by touching the superintendent’s heart. We know this is because of your prayers. We were allowed to give special Christmas services back to back on December 20th. The “Light Blue Band” provided special music, E.J. Mayo (from our home church, Living Word) gave his testimony and my wife gave a short devotional on “The Who of Christmas” (Matthew 16:15). Rev. Steve Petrovitch (a good friend of ours) brought the Word concerning the blessing of Jacob and Ephraim & Manasseh. Facility Chaplain Rev. Steve Smith joined us for both services and was very blessed. We had a wonderful time and rejoiced to see eighteen souls added to the Kingdom! Hallelujah! God is so good!
We started out January 2009 going to Virginia Beach for a few days of refreshment and while we were there we were able to encourage another family whose son was also just deployed. We were also invited to speak at two chapel services at the Youth Challenge (a program like Teen Challenge) in Norfolk, one program for the guys and the other for the girls. The Lord was dealing with the guys about walking in forgiveness and as the service went on you could see the Lord softening their hearts to get things right. What a victory! At the ladies’ service, my wife spoke about worshipping Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23) and two came forward to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Praise God for His wonderful work in His people!
Beginning this month (February) the Lord has opened another door. The Executive Director of Teen Challenge (Rochester, NY) has asked us to conduct evangelistic services every 3rd Friday of the month. This service starts at 7:00PM and is open to the public. We praise the Lord for this and we are believing He will do great things. This city is desperate for His touch! Especially in light of the most recent shooting of a police officer in the back of the head, allegedly by a 14 year old!
Then March 20-22 we’ll be conducting a 3-day revival at the Ark of Jesus Ministry in Rochester, NY (Bishop David Singleton, pastor). So pray for the Lord to work mightily. From there I will go to New York March 26-30 to minister at Freedom Chapel in Long Island. Rev. Jimmy Jack is the pastor and it is the church for Teen Challenge there. After that I go on to speak at three Christ-centered programs (1 in Brooklyn, 2 in the Bronx) and a youth service in Queens at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ (Bishop Kittim & Rev. Rosa Silva, pastors). We really covet your prayers!
Recently I was approached by the superintendent of Butler Prison again and he asked if those who came for the Christmas services would be willing to come back for a special set of Easter services on April 11. We are so blessed at the work of God in this man’s heart! We are seeing the results of your prayers and we want to see the salvation of this man and the staff just as much as we want to see the inmates saved! So keep praying!
Then April 17-19 we’ve been invited by Pastor, Rev. Ulysses and Josie Parris to give a revival at Free Deliverance Church on Hudson Avenue in Rochester, NY. Please keep these services before the Lord and consider fasting as this church is in a really “hot” neighborhood where drugs and crime are rampant, BUT GOD is mighty to save!
As we are beginning 2009 we sense this year will be a time for the Body of Christ to walk in great intimacy with the Savior. We continue to believe that He will do great and powerful things this year no matter what the economy does, no matter what man says. He will work on behalf of His people as we turn to Him daily in prayer, humility and repentance giving all the honor and praise due His Name! FOR HE IS LORD!
Be encouraged in the Lord! (PSALM 121: 1-2)
Your servants,
Herman & Sandra
